I can't get any (numerical) readings.

What symptoms do you see?

I push the button, but nothing at all happens

I push the button, display reads 188.88 and fades out

I push the button, display reads 188.88 briefly, then ERR or -ERR

I push the button, display reads 188.88 briefly, then ----

I push the button, get 188.88 briefly, then CAL, put on the weight, but it stays on CAL
